Checkout this couple P90X transformation!  Our New Years Challenge group just wrapped up and it was amazing!  We had a weekly call every Monday night for the team which included guests such as Richard Neal (Beachbody Challenge winner of $100,000) and TD Nation members who have lost over 100lbs.  All were very motivational and really helped the team stay plugged in.  It was great to watch people actually get excited about eating healthy and working out and not looking at it as work.  Some really took advantage of the opportunity and I can say those that did are totally transformed and living a new life style.  It’s why I do what I do.

Out of all our Challengers I wanted to give a special shout out to Steve and Ashley L and add them to our Hall of Fame.  This is one fit couple and they will be around to enjoy their children for years to come thanks to the changes they made.  Not only have they amazed me in every challenge group with their determination but also their willingness to help and motivate others.  Checkout these results!


Steve’s Story:

I started my journey on September 1, 2012. I weighed 248# at 6′-1″. I had beat and was still in the long process of recovering from a 2+ year struggle with depression. I had high blood pressure (borderline being forced onto medication), chronic migraines, and was forced to use a CPAP machine due to sleep apnea. I was also recovering from a reconstructive shoulder surgery that was a result of an old sports injury. The injury actually caused me to shatter the head of my humerus on my right arm and tear/strain every connecting tendon and ligament in the shoulder. I will always have the scope holes and the 9 inch incision on the front of my shoulder as a constant reminder of what can happen. The limitations were constant and extensive and even after 6 months of rehabilitation therapy, I was still not able to move or hold weight with any consistency.

Ashley and I were “forced” to give up on working out when she got pregnant due to day-long “morning sickness” and it quickly took its toll. I was having cravings just as often as she was and 10pm trips to the DQ drive-thru were commonplace. Eating out was expected due to our busy lifestyle and we justified it as such. We didn’t even notice as the pounds piled on. After Tucker was born, we bought Insanity after watching a late night infomercial. Figured we were both athletes at one time and could probably get right back into it easy enough… HAHA! It came in and we took out pictures and measurements and looked at the tape measure like it was crazy. Started into it and after 3 weeks, we let life get in the way and quit. Our motivation was up though, so we started going to the gym again but we never changed our eating habits. We attempted to run a 10k in April and I was dying. My feet, my ankles, my knees were all screaming at me telling me to stop, but I pushed thru. Fast forward to August when we tried to run a 5k obstacle course and I couldn’t even run between the obstacles after I’d passed the half way mark. I was pathetic and I thought I was still in decent shape going into this thing. THIS was our breaking point and we decided it was time to try it again, and this time we had a new trick called myfitnesspal. A friend turned us onto it so we thought we would casually start using it and give Insanity another run. I was approximately 28% bodyfat at the time. I was on a horrible path with my health and I wanted to make sure I would be around for a long time to support my new family, but also to be a good role model for my new son.

We worked together with it for a few months and did okay but something was still missing. We didn’t have a real diet plan as we weren’t excited about any of the foods in the Insanity plan. We lost 15-20 pounds in our first 2 months and thought we were doing pretty good, but we wanted more. With the help of our coach and high school friend, we got it. Steve Sample contacted me, complimented me on our progress and asked if we wanted to join his challenge group. I didn’t really think much of it at the time and agreed to give it a shot. I had no idea the impact that decision would have on our lives. With the “fat shredder” diet plan, myfitnesspal, Insanity, and the guidance and motivation of the people in the challenge group, we pushed our weight loss to the next level. Ashley ended up nudging me out as the victor of that group (winning a copy of Les Mills Combat) but I used it as fuel for the fire. I joined the next challenge group before we were even done with the first and have continued to do so since then. As of March 1, 2013 (180 days), I am down to 194# and 10-11% bodyfat. I went from stats of (44″ stomach, 39″ waist, 42″ hips) to (33″ stomach, 35″ waist, 38″ hips). I’ve never been in this good of shape in my life. I owe it all to my coach and these systems. I did Insanity and transitioned into a hybrid of Insanity and Weight Training (something I was told I could never do again after my shoulder surgery). After finishing our second group, I decided I wanted to help others the way I had been helped and decided to become a coach. Adding Insanity Asylum to our growing catalog of Beachbody programs. I had tried Shakeology before but started taking it full time once the new formula was released. It’s really helped fill the gaps in my diet and regulate my system. We just finished out second challenge group and I weighed in at 194# again, but this time at 9% bodyfat with 32.5” waist and adding an inch to my chest, and half an inch to my biceps. My journey has been so amazing but I know it’s just the beginning. I have a renewed vigor and inspiration to keep pushing to the next level. When we have our next child, we will have a number of tools to ensure that we never go down such an unhealthy path again.
